You haven't lived...

...until a rat has licked your hand clean.

...the more they stay the same.

(Yep, it's an old picture, but Roo (on the left) just finished licking my hand clean, again. Guess I should wash them more often.)

Thoughts on Men's Olympic Hockey

Watched Canada get blanked by Switzerland this AM, and all I can say is: GOOD! As the gf observed yesterday the game is played on ice, not paper, and it's a good thing those uppity Canucks got taken down a peg. She's also observed today that the Swiss team now has a dilema: Switzerland has two hot goalies; which one do you start next?

(ANSWER: In my opinion, the one who's rested, but I'm sure their coach is agonizing over the decision.)

Right now, I'm watching USA vs Slovakia, and I admit I'm rooting for the Slovaks. Hey, the Slovaks have one current Cap (Ivan Majesky) and two former Caps (Peter Bondra and Richard Zednik) on the ice, as well as two members of my fantasy team (Zdeno Chara and Marek Svatos). THey've also got a pair of former members of my fantasy team (Bondra again and Miroslav Satan). Team USA has no former or current Caps and only two members of my fantasy team (Craig Conroy and John Grahame).

Go ahead, question my patriotism.

UPDATE: The gf saw a familiar face on Team USA's bench: Trainer Stan Wong, formerly with the Caps, now with the Panthers. I'm still cheering for Slovakia.

FINAL UPDATE: Slovakia held on to win, 2-1, a blown call by a linesman with 0:57 to play notwithstanding. I feel strangely empty inside. Guess I really wanted USA to win after all.

Happy Birthday, Joe Don Baker!

Today is the day when we all drink Schlitz. Today is Joe Don Baker's birthday.
Pusser.jpg
Joe Don as Buford Pusser, his most famous role.

Joe Don as Mitchell, his most infamous role.

More pix from Mitchell in the extended entry, and more Joe Don blogging at the Deadpool when I get it ready.

Our first impression of Mitchell. He's passed out in the back of a patrol car.

Just another Saturday night, and he ain't go no-bo-ody...

Greta.jpg
...Until Greta comes along. BTW, they both have just one name through the entire movie. I still don't know if Mitchell is a first name or a last name.

makingoutwithjdb.jpg
This is both the highlight and the lowlight of their careers.

I'd write more, only I realized there's really not anything I can add to my last two Joe Don Baker retrospectives:
2005 and wrapup
2004
Review of Mitchell at The Agony Booth.

Happy Birthday, Joe Don, and I'm sorry I put you on my deadpool rosters.

Blog meet

Last night, the gf and I headed to a restaurant we had never been to before, a fake English pub that fouled up our reservation.

No biggie. When you're with a bunch of funny people, it's no big deal. Ted already discusses the most important thing, but what's missing is the many permutations of table arranging we went thru due to the fouled-up reservations.

I've been waiting all day to make that Tetris joke.
